This morning, I found myself engaged in a lively Facebook discussion about a recent blog post from an Art Educator. In the original blog post, the blogger writes about a particularly trying day wherein there were several disciplinary issues that merited administrative involvement. The post ends…

Friday, September 12th, 2014 will be an exciting evening indeed, marking the opening night (monthly thereafter on 2nd Fridays) of a new engagement long in the works: Divine: A Theater and Fortunetelling Hideout, to be presented by Three of Cups, my partnership with avant-garde theater producer and performance artist Michael Wiener and burlesque and mystical nightclub producer extraordinaire, Darcey Leonard, in concert with Darcey’s legendary House of Screwball, and overseen by Denis Woychuk, the beloved major domo of KGB Bar, and his partner in crime, Lori. The new Red Room is 20 years in the making, a sumptuous, throwback, supremely elegant, lovingly restored space replete w/period detail and all sorts of nooks and crannies to sink into, and a spectacular sound system.
Programming (generally 15 minute sets, giving the gathering plenty of time to become its own animal in between performances) will be a collision of our three backgrounds, with cabaret being the default vein. Each month is inspired by a different tarot card, with readers from Darcey’s Tarot Society on premises, and house pianist, the virtuoso jazz stylist Mitch Hampton, out of Boston. Performance poets procured by moi and theater Michael Wiener hosts, with abandon. Cocktails are stiff, and serious. An Italian food menu will be available at times, and we hope to make that a regular thing.
Tarot inspiration for September, our debut month: The Fool. fittingly, The Fools, Michael Wiener & Gavin Price’s new cabaret act run amok, will make its official debut. Aimee Herman will play her ukulele. Performace artist Fritz Donnelly of HiChristina is performing. Mitch Hampton on piano. Darcey glamorously hostshostessing and glamouring you at will.

- Have a life outside of school. Don’t let your job consume you. Make time for hobbies and people and sleep.
- Document, document, document. If you’re not…
